Brighton 10k Race - by Sarah Thomson
Running the Brighton Brooks 10k was the culmination of 6 months training. I had not run that far before in my life, but I was looking forward to it! The run was to take us along the sea front in Brighton, it would be flat, and I would have the excitement of running alongside 3000 other runners, and even more excitingly some of those being my fellow Habakkuk Harriers, I could not wait!

Race Day came, the anticipation was great, but the weather was not! It was freezing cold and the wind was whipping up a treat. I lost 2 of my team-mates soon after the start as they went on ahead, the sense of doing it alone started to overwhelm me as we headed out towards the marina. Then my husband dropped back next to me, and I found myself between him and Judith another Harrier. The going was good and when we turned to head Westwards, I was pleased to see a healthy number of runners behind me.

This was short lived as pretty soon I was being over-taken on all sides. Determined not to let it get to me, I held on to my pace and put my chin up. Going past the crowds was brilliant, it certainly gives you an extra surge of energy, though I was not impressed by the measly half cup of water that we were given en route!
